Before Harry Potter 7: Part 1

Hi guys! I'm just here to let you know what's happening. On friday I'm going to the cinema to watch the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It's going to be epic! If I can write a review without spoiling to much it will probably get here in the weekend, but I wouldn't count on it seeing as I probably have to work a lot.

Well... This looks like a pretty useless post, but now you know what might not get to this blog in the weekend ;)

A new blog

I'm finally done with my new blog. I've been working on the layout a lot this week and a few hours ago I posted my first post. If you'd like you can visit it here: http://wictorkoch.se/. Remember: It's in swedish so most of you might not be interested in it, but if you still want to visit, just use Google Translate (though, I wouldn't trust the translation completely). Here you can visit my site through Google Translate: http://bit.ly/aISwvE. Haha, now that I've had a quick look at it, it's horrible XD That's all for now. I'll be back with more news probably in a few days.

Gamex

This weekend I was at, what the organizers called Swedens first game exhibition, Gamex. I had high expectations and wasn't dissapointed when we got there.

There were a lot of companies showing their latest games, consoles and accessories like Nintendo with Donkey Kong Country Returns, Sony with Move, Microsoft with Kinect, Blizzard with Cataclysm beta and SEGA with Sonic Colors. Since I like Nintendo best I didn't try or watch many other companies, but here's some other games you could try: Gran Turismo 5, F1 2010, Dragon Age 2 and Dance Central.

As I just wrote I like Nintendo best so most of the time I spent in their booth and I mostly played Mario Kart Wii there because of the competition I mentioned in my latest post. The one who got the fastest time on Toad's Factory won (you had to use Wii Wheel). Unfortunetly neither I nor any of my friends won. My best time was 02:05:452 and he who won had 02:01:356.

I also met some bloggers and people from Twitter: Christian (RadioGamer), EmmyZ (emmyz.net), Kerstin (GamePlayer) and Admin-Henric (RadioGamers Facebook-admin). It was very nice to meet everyone.

Overall I think Gamex was great since it's the first time and already after the first day there I looked forward to next years exhibition.

Below are some photos I took. You can find more photos on Shebsas blog.

Here's a few gifts I got:

Yet another quick update

There's a lot of things going on right now so I probably won't have any time to write a review this week. This weekend I'm going to GAMEX (a swedish game exhibition(?)) and there I'll be attending a competition. To have even the slightest chance of winning I have to practice a lot this week :P Next week you can look forward to at least some pictures from GAMEX :)

I can also tell you that I'm working on a new design for this blog and also another blog, but that one will be in swedish. I plan to make the new blog public in 1-2 weeks and hopefully I have time to finish the design until then. I'll update you when I know more.

Quotes from my life: Cheesy Shebsa

I have a little bit time over today so I'll give you a quote from Shebsa (and myself). This took place a few minutes before Shebsa were going to eat 16 cheeseburgers from McDonalds. He was trying to beat the record in our office which is 15.

Wictor (humorously): It's probably best if you puke in the toilet first
Shebsa (seriously): Shall I do it?

He did not do it and as a result of that he couldn't eat all 16 cheeseburgers.

Note: Shebsa was of course kidding.

Quick update of what's not to come

I'm just here to tell you that I probably won't be making any more post this week. I have a lot of other things to take care of. Also I'll be spending the weekend at my parents so there won't be any time to blog then. I'll be back on monday with probably some more movie reviews. Until then, here's a list of the movies I've reviewed so far. Please have a look :)

Clash of the Titans - 6 / 10
Taken - 9 / 10
King Kong - 4 / 10
The Social Network - 8 / 10

Movie review: The Social Network (2010)

Hey! I found one of the hours missing from last Friday! It gave me some time yesterday to begin writing on this review. Though I didn't have enough time to finish it since I made some changes in the structure as well. Feel free to comment on the new structure so I can improve it even more.

Plot:

In 2003 Mark Zuckerberg created a website that would later become a global social network. It started in his dorm room at Harvard and quickly spread to other schools in USA. Today Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in history, but to get here he had to go through both personal and legal complications. This is the story of Facebook.

Review:
(Spoiler alert! I try not to spoil anything, but it happens. If you want to be sure not to spoil anything, skip this section)

What a great movie. It was filled with hacking and coding, which I thought was fun to watch. Though it might not have been so much fun for those that don't understand much about that. I think you have to be a nerd or at least a programmer to fully appreciate this movie.

No, I'm just kidding. The movie is not filled with hacking and coding. It's actually mostly about the trials against Mark. Mark is accused for stealing the idea for Facebook from other students at Harvard, which he kinda did in this movie (see I told you I might spoil something) and they sue him for that.

I mostly like Marks attitude, but sometimes it goes too far. I also like Eduardo. Marks friend and co-founder of Facebook. After a while you feel sorry for him, but if I go into that there will be spoilers.

After watching the movie I just wanted to hack or code something XD

Rating:

IMDb: 8.4 / 10
Me: 8 / 10 (I'll keep my rating to whole numbers)

It was fun at the cinema. 75% (wild guess) of everyone there were girls between 15-19 years old and they probably didn't understand much of the hacking and coding. I guess they went to see the movie just because it's about Facebook. Talk about fail XD

Favourite quotes:
(Spoiler alert! As always it's best not to read this if you don't want to spoil the movie)

Tyler Winklevoss: I'm six-five, 220 pounds, and there are two of me.

Mark Zuckerberg: As for the charges, I believe I deserve some recognition from this board. Ad Board Chairwoman: I'm sorry? Mark Zuckerberg: Yes.
Ad Board Chairwoman: I don't understand...
Mark Zuckerberg: Which part?

Gage: Mr. Zuckerberg, do I have your full attention?
Mark Zuckerberg: [stares out the window] No.
Gage: Do you think I deserve it?
Mark Zuckerberg: [looks at the lawyer] What?
Gage: Do you think I deserve your full attention?
Mark Zuckerberg: I had to swear an oath before we began this deposition, and I don't want to perjure myself, so I have a legal obligation to say no.

Marylin Delpy: You're not an asshole, Mark. You're just trying so hard to be.

Automatic, at last

Growing up with a dishwasher is great, until you move to your own place :( Since February I've been washing my dishes by hand and it's not fun at all. I see no problem in washing kettles, pans and even plates. What I don't like is to wash glasses and cutlery.

Not my image or dishes. I found it on Google
and borrowed it. Link to original
I must blame myself a bit for not getting around to buying a dishwasher and call a plumber. Not until two months ago anyway. A friend of mine found a quite cheap table top dishwasher on Prisjakt (a swedish price comparison site), so I decided that it was time to buy one. But before I could do that I had to find a plumber, and it didn't take long once I started to look around.

2 530 SEK is around 350-400 USD

Now it was time to order the dishwasher. Since the store with the lowest price had good ratings I thought there would be no problems. Big mistake... I ordered the dishwasher believing that it would be delivered within 12 days. 15 days after I ordered it I called the store and asked if there were any problems. They said that the delivery from the manufacturer was late and it would take another week or so before I got it. If they knew this, why didn't they inform me?! Fortunately the dishwasher was delieved about a week after that.

I'm glad that I found a patient plumber. Because of the slow delivery I had made several appointments that I had to cancel. When I finally got the dishwasher I made one last appointment and since almost everything was prepaired for a dishwasher it didn't take long before it was hooked up.

Now I finally got a dishwasher and it's great not having to wash glasses, cutlery and plates. I still wash kettles and pans by hand, but that's ok :)

Unfortunatly I don't have time to write a review of The Social Network today and not tomorrow either since I have a concert with my choir. I'll be back at Monday.

Time flies

I had planned to make a post about my dishwasher (that I finally got) today, but I don't know where all the time went... Some of the time I spent at the cinema, but there where at least 2-3 hours that just dissappeared :( Well, there's nothing I can do about it now so tomorrow (actually it will be later today since it's already past midnight here) I'll try to make two posts. First, one for the dishwasher and then one with a review of the movie I saw at the cinema, The Social Network.

Quotes from my life: Konrads revelation

Konrad (screaming): Now we die!!

There was some machines digging outside our office, and because there's something wrong with building there were a lot of vibrations. Just before Konrad screamed one of the machines dropped something big which resulted in heavy vibrations.

This probably won't be as fun to read as it was to hear, but I thought I'd post it anyway ;)

Lucky winner

A few weeks ago Bergsala (distributor of Nintendo-products in Sweden) announced a grimace contest. To be able to compete in this contest you had to take a picture of yourself, with your DSi or DSi XL, while making a grimace. You could also use the photo editor in Nintendo DSi to disort the photo. The best photo would win a copy of Face Training to Nintendo DSi or DSi XL.

There was something about Face Training that I thought sounded interesting. Even though it didn't sound that interesting that I would buy the game. Therefore I decided to compete in this contest. Also, I thought it would be fun :P

I'm not very good with grimaces (at least that's what I think) so I decided to only disort the photo. I took a photo of myself with my DSi XL, opened it in the photo editor and made some disortions. I didn't disort the picture very much. I thought that it would just ruin the photo. After that I sent the picture to Bergsala and waited, but forgot about it all after a few days.

This Monday afternoon I recieved an advice of delivery from Posten (Swedish mail service) saying that there was a package for me. Since I had forgotten about the contest I had no idea why I'd gotten a package from Bergsala. I went to pick it up and when I got home I opened it. As soon as I saw what it contained I remembered everything and was very happy.

Here is the photo that I made me a winner :)

If you'd like you can read Bergsalas notice about this contest (in swedish) here: http://www.nintendo.se/arkivet/nyheter/face-training-vinnare

I haven't had time to try Face Training much, but I'll write a review once I have. From what I have played I can tell you that it's quite embarrassing sometimes. There's several exercises that require you to stick out your tongue and sometimes even keep it out for a few seconds XD I'll write more about this in my review.

Movie review: King Kong

Alright, so here's another one of my (probably horrible) movie reviews. Last night I watched King Kong and it wasn't very good at all. Here's a list of some bad things:
  • Very much of the movie was predictable
  • Between some scenes it felt like there should to be at least one more scene to get the story and the feeling right
  • There were some characters that I liked in the beginning, but after a while I hated them. Yeah, this is quite common in movies, but it just felt wrong
  • Last, but not least, the ending was really bad. Very predictable and I don't really think it suits this movie
Ok, everything wasn't bad so here's a list of some good things:
  • The bond between some of the characters. Specially between the black sailor and the mysterious boy. I don't know what it was but something made me fall for it
  • Occasionally there was a bit humor
Before writing the last thing on my list I'll have to shout SPOILER ALERT. Even though the movie is 5 years old it's best if there's someone (like myself the day before yesterday) who hasn't seen it. We don't want angry followers, right? ;) For all of you that would like to continue, go on (else skip this section):
  • When Jack, Carl and the others had fallen down to the large bugs. I myself are not a big fan of bugs and insects so it was a bit scary :P The great thing about this scene is that it wasn't as predictable as the rest. I knew that they had to survive to keep the movie going, but it still didn't look good for them. I think this was the best scene in the movie even though I hate bugs
Now we've reached the end of this review. As in my other reviews this is where I rate the movie. IMDb:s rating is 7.6. I give it *drum roll* 4.

I hope you enjoyed reading this review and if you didn't, well then I hope you'll enjoy commenting.

A quick update

I know I haven't posted anything for a while now and it's because there are a lot of other things happening. Hopefully I'll have something to write soon and also time to write it. This post is just a test to try dlvr.it. Stay well everyone!

Movie review: Taken

I finally got around to this review of Taken, but now I've been sitting here for at least 30 minutes figuring out what to write and I don't think I can write a review of this movie. I think that if I write anything I might spoil the movie and that would be such a shame. So, all that I will tell you is that this movie is so f*cking awesome and so is Liam Neeson.

The only thing that I, right now, can think of is bad in the movie is when Liam enhance a photo several times and then get a pretty clear picture. It's almost like what they do in CSI: "Enhance that" (search YouTube if you don't know what I'm talking about).

IMDb:s rating of Taken is 7.9. Well, I'll give it 8.5-9. If you haven't seen this movie yet, do it!

I'll finish this "review" with some of my favourite quotes from Taken (not in any particular order). Spoiler alert! If you haven't seen this movie I suggest you don't read the rest of this post.

Kim: You don't have to worry.
Bryan: That's like telling water not to be wet, sweetie.

--

Bryan: I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.
Marko: [after a long pause] Good luck.

--

Jean Claude: Ok, first we should find the spotter.
Bryan: I found him, he's dead.
Jean Claude: You found him that way?...
Jean Claude: Graham, you can't just run around tearing down Paris...
Bryan: [cuts him off abruptly] Jean Claude, I'll tear down the Eiffel Tower if I have to!

--

Bryan: Wake up! I need you to be focused!
[stabs Marko in the legs with metal rods]
Bryan: Are you focused yet?

--

Bryan: [after electrocuting Marko] You either give me what I need or this switch will stay on until they turn the power off for lack of payment on the bill.

--

Bryan: [after torturing Marko] I believe you. But that won't save you.
[turns the electricity back on and leaves]

Quotes from my life: Konrads secrets revealed

This quote is from a colleague of mine (assisted by Shebsa):

Shebsa: We know what you've been up to. We found it.
Konrad (screaming): No! Not my child pornography!

Minutes before Konrad said this he faceraped another colleague and left the room. Before he got back we had explained to our colleague what Konrad had done.

Note: Konrad is only joking, but it was funny as hell.

Quotes from my life: Shebsa takes the lead

Today I introduce a new thing here on my blog. I call it "Quotes from my life" and this will be a recurring thing that will come whenever I have new (or old) quotes to share. The first quote is from my friend and colleague Shebsa:

Shebsa: I don't want to exhale, only inhale.

Shebsa said this today as the smell of newly baked cookies went through our office.

After Work (on a Thursday?!)

If you wonder why I didn't post anything last night it's because I was on an After Work with some colleagues. We went to a place called Haket to eat and as promised I ate a steak and took a photo of it (see this comment).

It was nice, but the one I got at O'Learys (see this post) was much better.

After that we went to a bar to have a few drinks. Well, since I rarely drink, everybody else went to have a few drinks. I just came along and had a blast!

For all of you that participated I just want to say thanks and also... Voulez vous!

New haircut... or not...

Today I was going to get a new haircut. I had let my hair grow for some time (1-2 months) and since we're heading for winter I didn't really want the 7mm haircut I've had for some time.

7mm haircut
So, when I was at the hairdresser I said that I wanted a different haircut and she asked me if 18mm was ok. Since I didn't have much to go on I said ok. Moments later I look in the mirror and realize my mistake.

18mm haircut
Well, next time I know that 18mm is too short...

Note: The reason why I know the length is because the hairdresser cut by machine.

Another one of those quick posts

I thought I had something to write about today, but I don't... Also it's quite late and I'm really tired. Hang in there! Hopefully I'll have more to write about tomorrow... I mean today since it's already a new day. Good night folks :)

Not a usual weekend

This weekend my sister and I drove to our parents in Trollhättan. It's around 3 hours drive. It was nice to meet our parents and our little brother again. We also met our family's awesome cat that has a female name even though it is a male cat XD (his name is Agda).

Among other things this weekend we went to O'Learys Bar and Restaurant and there I ate this awesome steak:

This image is quite crappy. I didn't get a good photo of the steak so I had to take this part from another photo where the focus was on something in the background.
If you're ever near one of their restaurants and are hungry; visit them! If you're not a big fan of steaks, but still are hungry as hell, you can follow my sisters example and order more food than you can eat ;)

We also watched two movies this weekend: Taken (third time I watched it) and Disney's Hercules (must be the millionth time I watched it). Now that I think of it, it's quite weird that I wrote a bit about the actor in the first movie and mentioned the second a few posts back. I can assure you that this wasn't planned at all. Random things just happen :) I think I'll leave the review of Taken to its own post and I don't think I need to review Hercules ;)

I'm going to finish this post by telling you that there are some major changes on its way to this blog, but that's all you get for now.

Game review: Golden Sun 2

I recently started playing Golden Sun 2 on GBA again. I still haven't gotten through the whole game for the first time. When I played it about a year ago I got through maybe half of the game and then I got bored, but this time I'll make sure to finish it ;)

I think it's a great game and I feel I must buy the first game and play it as well to get the whole story :P I also look forward to Golden Sun 3.

A few days ago I had gotten to Lemuria and in the conversation with the king I read this funny sentence:

Though I was rather dissapointed when the next sentence wasn't "Madness? This is Lemuria!" or something like that XD

Finally I'd like to thank everyone for the tips. I will change the design as soon as I have more time. Also if there is something you want me to write about please tell me and I will try and do it.

I know that I kinda promised you a longer post this time, but I just haven't had the time to sit down and write it. I hope I can keep my promise this time and give you a longer post tomorrow. For now I'll just update you on what's happening here.

I made some small changes to the design and will probably change it more soon and I finally got a title on my blog... Uhm... Wait a second... ??... Anyway, sorry for not keeping my promise and if you have any ideas on how I can make my blog better, please tell me.

I guess that's it. Good night!

New domain

Hi again. I'm kinda in a hurry so I'll make this post short and quick. I just wanted to tell you all that I've registered a domain (www.wictorkoch.se) for this blog. I think I'll be back later today with another post.

Have a nice day!

Is it on? Testing... One, two...

Well, it seems to be working. Hello everyone! This is, as you can see, my first post. This is also my first time blogging. At this time I haven't decided what to write about in my blog so for now I'll write about random stuff in my life. It can be anything from webprogramming to movies I recently watched to things about Arise (the gospel choir I'm in). I'll continue this post with some words about the movie I watched last night: Clash of the Titans.

When I watched the trailer to this movie I was very excited to see it. I think Liam Neeson is a great actor and the thought of seeing him as Zeus was just epic!
Well, I'll go straight to what I think of this movie. I didn't like it very much and I think the reason for this is becuase of my high expectations and also that I imagined the story to be a lot different.
I thought that the gods would be in the movie a lot more and that they would be the ones fighting a war. I was, for example, expecting to see Liam throw lightning bolts. Also I was expecting the titans to be in the movie fighting the gods. In other words you might say that I wanted to see Disney's Hercules with real actors and more action.
Even though I didn't like the movie very much it still is a good movie. I just don't think I'll watch it again.

IMDb's rating of Clash of the Titans is, at this moment, 5.9. I'm just a tiny bit more generous and I'll give it 6.

This is everything for today. I hope you enjoy what you read here and that you'll be back for more. If you have any suggestions to what I should write about just post a comment about it.

Take care now, bye bye then.
